How a Subject Led to My Career Day

Notre Dame High School are looking for volunteers to talk to all year groups about their career paths.

How a subject led to my career involves the employer talking about how subjects they studied at school are now used in their everyday working life. There are slots available all week from Monday 2nd to Friday 6th March to inspire the next generation.

Speed Interview Workshop Volunteers Needed!

Are you available Tuesday 10th March 13:00 – 15:00 for a Speed Interview Workshop?

This is a short ‘speed dating’ exercise where Year 10 and 11 students chat to employers for 5mins at a time about their role, industry, skills etc. 

Hooper Lane Short Stay School are looking for employer volunteers from various industries and backgrounds to come along and chat to students.

Careers Carousel, can you help?

Locksley Short Stay School are looking for volunteers to get involved with their Careers Carousel Friday 6th March, 08:30 – 12:30.

We are looking for 4-5 employer volunteers to have a ‘stand’ at Locksley Short Stay Schools’ Careers Carousel morning. You will be demonstrating a practical element of your job role (previously this has included hairdressers, waiters, engineers, graphic designers etc.) to Year 10 and 11 students.

Media and Journalism Businesses needed

Tuesday 3rd February, All Day, Sewell Park Academy

Sewell Park Academy would like to invite media and journalism professionals to their Enterprise Morning BBC Schools Report.

Year 7 students will be working in small teams in the ‘newsroom’ writing a news article, blog, or recording a radio news report. Teams will then attend a press meeting where staff will have a debate on the subjects raised by the students.

We are looking for businesses that are connected to media and journalism to support the event and provide ‘real’ world experience.

Employers needed for Hot Seat

On Tuesday 3rd March City Academy are holding an employer “hot seat” activity and would love for you to be involved.

This is a great  exercise where Year 9 students chat to employers for 5 mins at a time about their role, industry, skills, and career journey. We’re looking for employer volunteers from various industries and backgrounds to come along and take to the hot seat!

Monday 24th – Friday 28th February.

Can you offer a week’s work experience to a Year 10 student to help them gain the skills they need to be work ready?

Having someone for work experience is a great opportunity to show them what it’s really like to have a job in your sector, City Academy are looking for placements to start Monday 24th February.

We need employer volunteers to give ‘real’ competency based mock interviews to Year 10 and 11 students to prepare them for their next steps.

Can you help raise Aspirations?

Year 8 Aspirations Week needs you!

Running 27th January to 31st January Aspirations week is aimed at getting students thinking about their lessons in a different way, to encourage them see lessons as a key part in their future as well as providing support for students when choosing their GCSE options.

We are looking for a number of different employers to come into selected lessons during the week that fit with their industry and either talk about their job, run a lesson or give a demo. The sessions are yours so you can make them as engaging as you like.

Speed Networking – Business & Students in Norwich

January 22nd, 9am – 1pm, Kings Centre, Norwich

Join over 500 Norwich students as they take part in a Norwich Work Skills Event to develop the skills they need for the workplace while learning how to make a good professional impression. Students will practice networking skills, shaking hands and learn how to articulate their strengths throughout the day. This event will prepare students to find their own work experience placements and feel confident about engaging with local businesses.

We are looking for volunteers to take part in a large speed networking session with students to provide advice, share their experiences and give some helpful pointers. If you’d like to be involved send us an email – [email protected]

Norwich Economic Barometer – November 2019

Norwich City Council have released their latest economic barometer. The report highlighted:

Locally

• Figures pointing to an encouraging rise in research and development in the region have emerged in statistics showing a 22 per cent rise in claims for R&D tax credits in the East of England • More than twice as many business owners in the East of England would choose to recruit an older worker than a younger candidate • Five University of East Anglia (UEA) scientists have been named in the top 1 per cent of the world’s most highly cited researchers • During the month of September, average house prices dropped by 0.64 per cent in Norwich, 0.41 per cent regionally and by 0.09 per cent in England compared to the previous month.

Nationally

• October data pointed to a sustained decline in UK construction output, with overall volumes of work falling for the sixth consecutive month • UK Report on Jobs data recruitment consultancies across the UK continued to register subdued hiring trends • Visa’s UK Consumer Spending Index, compiled by HIS Markit, indicated that expenditure fell on an annual basis for the thirteenth month in a row
