With the Climate Crisis affecting every part of the globe, it has never been more important to make the changes necessary to preserve the planet for future generations. One way to combat rising temperatures is by reducing the amount of carbon and other harmful gases in the atmosphere. While the ultimate goal is to produce absolutely no emissions (referred to as ‘gross zero’) it’s clear that this isn’t immediately possible – in the meantime, we should instead be aiming for Net-Zero.

According to the National Grid, Net-Zero refers to ‘the balance between the amount of greenhouse gas… produced and the amount that’s removed from the atmosphere. It can be achieved through a combination of emission reduction and emission removal’.

To reach Net-Zero, emissions from homes, transport, agriculture, and industry will need to be cut. This means these sectors will have to reduce the amount of carbon they put into the atmosphere wherever possible.

Can I make a difference?

Of course! By focusing on quick wins you can have a much larger effect than only focusing on larger changes, both in your personal and business life.

Small businesses make up over 99% of UK businesses and provide 60% of private sector jobs. This is why Business Climate Leaders was set up – to help SMEs start their journey to Net-Zero and allow them to thrive while making a positive impact on the climate. The best place to begin is at the beginning, so take a look at our First Steps page to find out where to start.
