The Maids Head went back to 1549 and Kett’s Rebellion to mark Norfolk Day on Saturday 27 July and raised £89 in donations from guests for the hotel’s charity of the year, Break.
In the morning, Rob Knee from the Paston Heritage Society, dressed as Tudor courtier, Sir Thomas Paston gave a full account, in the Oak Room, of Sir Thomas’ response to Kett’s Rebellion in Norwich during the summer of 1549.
This was followed in the afternoon by a Shardlake’s Norwich tour led by Maids Head tour guide, Paul Dickson, dressed as Matthew Shardlake. The tour celebrates CJ Sansom’s best-selling novel, Tombland and looks at Norwich at the time of Kett’s Rebellion.
