To celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March, we’re holding a special event at the Millennium Library in conjunction with the Federation of Small Businesses. It’s a chance to meet and chat to other female-led businesses, hear from Carol Robinson, the founder of One Of A Kind Club, an independent brand of handcrafted and curated feel-good jewellery, and talk to us about how we can help your business. Did you know that for every 10 male UK entrepreneurs, there are fewer than five female entrepreneurs? Women are less likely to believe they possess entrepreneurial skills: only 39% of women are confident in their capabilities to start a business compared to 55% of men (The Rose Review, 2019). But did you also know that BIPC Norfolk works with more women than men? Around 70% of our customers are women – and we’re celebrating their innovation, skills and enterprise journeys. About Carol Robinson Carol has always made jewellery for fun but became more dedicated when she couldn’t find things she wanted to wear. She spent 20 years in advertising and, being a slightly larger person, never felt much like she ‘fitted in’. Carol decided she might as well stand out a little bit more and began making unique jewellery. Having children changed her life, as it does for many, and she struggled with the long working week. Although she loved what she did, it wasn’t conducive to family life A turning point gave Carol the realisation she had to change her family’s future. She needed the freedom to work for herself, follow a new path and get a more balanced life. That’s how One Of A Kind Club began.
