WHAT IS NEIGHBOURHOOD PLANNING? WHY DO WE WANT A NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN? WOULD YOU LIKE TO HELP MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THE NORTH NORWICH AREA? THE NEIGHBOURHOOD FORUM GET INVOLVED! We are a group of local residents, business people and community groups working in the area. We have come together to start having discussions with the planners to agree what area is covered by the neighbourhood plan and how we will continue to work with them. We are setting up a formal group to manage the process and to provide a voice for local people. WHAT CAN YOU DO • Join the group and become actively involved in developing the plan; • Sign up to our mailing list so you get information and can feed back your opinions • Write to Norwich City Council saying that you support the development of the group and the plan Community Planning The Localism Act allows communities to make their own plan for neighbourhood growth. In city centres, communities set up a neighbourhood forum to be able to do this. The Forum, consisting of your local community members, has come together to formulate a neighbourhood plan. This will ensure the local community have a voice and their views are taken into account in neighbourhood planning for regeneration and growth. We all care about what happens to the places where we live and work. There are big changes proposed for the development of the north of the City and in order for local people to have a say over what happens, we want to create a neighbourhood plan. There is much pressure for new development operating in the North City area and this presents both and opportunity and challenge for residents, businesses and organisations already present in the area. Some key issues: • At least 2000 new housing units are due to be built across various development sites – this is a very substantial increase the area’s population • More movement pressure (buses and cars) due to growth at the north and eastern edges of the city • Loss of car parking spaces as sites are developed • Growing numbers of residents need more facilities and social infrastructure • Lack of connectivity between the Colegate/University area and St Augustine’s & Anglia Square due to the ring road • Pollution • Loss of affordable workspace through redevelopment • Developments are coming forward which are much taller than the current building heights • The historic architectural context seems to no longer be a reference point for the design of new schemes We would like to work together to optimise growth in the North City centre area for the benefit of all.
