Chambers Webinars – Good Growth for Cities

This webinar and discussion forum was held on Friday 31 March and was co-hosted by PwC and Norfolk Chambers of Commerce.

We shall consider the local impact of both the pandemic and Brexit and, most importantly, highlight the strategic opportunities for the city to play a key role in the regional, national and international economies.

In this session PwC’s market senior partner for Cambridge and the East, Simon de Young, and economist Paddy Schmidt will explore the findings of Demos-PwC’s latest Good Growth for Cities report. PwC Director, Lauren Dilrew will highlight what the implication for Norfolk is and what the region needs to consider as it builds its economic recovery in 2021.

This is PwC’s ninth report measuring the performance of the UK largest cities and LEPs against the 10 indicators the public deem most important when it comes to ‘good growth’.

This year’s report focuses on the economic impact of COVID-19 on places, with GVA projections for 2020 and 2021 based on a city’s sectoral make-up, claimant count, furlough, footfall and infection rates.

There will be the opportunity for you to ask your questions directly to the panel during the Q&A session, or if you have any questions prior to the session you can add them at registration.

Chaired by Nova Fairbank, Chief Operating Office for Norfolk Chambers of Commerce, our speakers include:

  • Simon de Young PwC’s market senior partner for Cambridge and the East
  • Paddy Schmidt PwC Economist
  • Lauren Dilrew PwC Director

Chamber Webinar – Top Tips for Growing A Business That Cost Nothing!

There are three core strategies at the heart of what every business should be doing – however, most will only do one at best and ignore the rest. And typically, the only one they tackle is generating new leads – the hardest and most expensive strategy of the three!

The bigger the company, often the worse they are here. And that allows smaller companies to exploit and punch above their weight.

This webinar will explain the three core strategies that together make an enormous difference – every single time. No ifs or buts, they work. They are simple too – that doesn’t make them easy to implement but doable.

Underpinning the core are eight guiding principles which we call Business Boosters – aptly named because they boost sales! And are free to put in place.

We will explore and explain all eight of our Business Boosters.

At the end of the webinar, you will understand the core principles behind the Business Growth Club, which was established to help our local business community here in Norfolk. And you will have a track to run on which works.

About the Speaker

Neil Foley, Founder of Business Growth Club and Board Member of the Norfolk Chambers of Commerce

Neil Foley is the Founder of the Business Growth Club and has been helping small business owners for years with his practical no-nonsense approach. He’s fond of saying the only benefit of getting old is he knows more stuff!

About Business Growth Club

The Business Growth Club is a free resource offered to help grow and sustain our local business communities here in Norfolk, offering workbooks, videos, podcasts and monthly webinars.

First Intuition – How to transition to Hybrid Working

How to transition to hybrid working is a hot topic for many businesses as staff start to return to the office. Remote working and its flexibility is something many want to continue in their post-COVID workplace. A Personnel Today survey found that pre-pandemic, 45% of workers were happy to work five days a week in the office, now its is only 5%. This shift in worker mentality needs to be considered by businesses to effectively implement a form of hybrid working that benefits from the positives of in-office working and working from home.

Guest speakers:

Laragh Jeanroy who has been involved in planning the pilot of the first hybrid office of RSM UK

Katie Allen leadership consultant and coach

Will Farnell of the innovative digital firm Farnell Clarke Limited

Richard DeNetto of CBI (Confederation of British Industry) who recently published a comprehensive report on hybrid working

Barnaby Clark of COEL who has led innovations in workspace planning

Rob Alder of the AAT who are looking at their steps back into their office in central London

First Intuition hosts:

Lucy Parr and David Malthouse.
