Book NowAgeism in yourself & others – recognise and challenge ageist behaviour
Ageing. We’re all doing it, every day, even toddlers.
Ageism is the one prejudice we are all likely to be affected by(if we are lucky) – with it currently affecting younger people(they are snowflakes you know) and older people(boomers who’ve taken all the stuff) the most.
This workshop explores what Ageism – that last acceptable -ism – is, and how it affects us as individuals and as a society. Using the key messages identified by older people of Age Proud Leeds campaign will explore the subject and learn how we can challenge this prejudice.
Join this 90 minute CPD session for staff and volunteers, covering:
● What is ageism and how widespread it is
● Ageism affects people of all ages – whether we are younger, middle aged or older – ageism affects us all
● What does Ageism do to us? – Age discrimination has many negative effects and having a positive attitude to ageing can help you live well for longer(and did you know, holding ageist attitudes against yourself could reduce your own life by up to 7 years)
● Older people are diverse and ageing and ageism affect us differently – it can have a compounding effect on many of the other disadvantages someone might be dealing with.
And finally
● Time to feel good about ageing – Ageing brings many benefits, share the positives and celebrate the contributions made by older people.
This workshop will help you to identify ageism when you see it – often kindly meant – and to challenge it effectively. As well as finding out more about the Age Friendly Employer pledge, and networking with members who have already signed up.
