We are delighted to present world-renowned political leader Gordon Brown, former British Prime Minister, Chancellor of the Exchequer and Leader of the Labour Party, in conversation with Dr Adam Marshall, Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce. This fascinating and unmissable debate, the latest in the BCC’s Leadership Programme, will address one of the biggest economic crises of our time – a global pandemic that has impacted the lives of all peoples, countries and economies across the world – and the importance of global cooperation to find solutions. They will explore lessons learnt from past recessions, in particular the differences and similarities with the last major economic crash of 2008. We will hear their thoughts on the immediate interventions and future strategic considerations which are needed to address a catastrophic fallout, including inevitable job cuts, which will lead to unprecedentedly high levels of unemployment. They will also discuss how to restart, rebuild and renew our economy, to ensure long-term sustainable growth and a more robust and resilient global economy that can better defend itself against future major world events. Finally, the former Prime Minister and Dr Marshall will also consider those big universal challenges: a new way to trade as we move into new future international trade relationships, future tech-driven industries and a need for relevant skills, climate change, diverse representative leaders, and UK’s continued competitiveness and its role as a global leader in these and other areas. There will also be an opportunity to put questions to Gordon Brown, in this unmissable virtual event.

Hear from some of the team at the New Anglia Growth Hub about the support available to your business, helping you recover from Covid-19.
What is the Growth Hub?
Since 2014, the New Anglia Growth Hub has been providing free and impartial guidance and support to businesses in Norfolk and Suffolk. There are 10,500 individual accounts detailed on the organisations CRM.
From the start of the Covid-19 crisis, the work of the Growth Hub team has, like many organisations, had to change. The team, working remotely, became the front line in facing a constant flow of difficult discussions. However, within two months, the nature of those conversations has changed significantly. The harrowing situations have not gone away but words such as growth, recovery and diversification are now being heard more frequently again.
The Topics:
Nevertheless, there will be challenges and some of the key areas of concern being raised at present include:
Improving Digital Skills
Guaranteeing Supply Chains
Preparing for a Second Spike
Virtual Selling
Debtor Collection
Funding for Recovery and Growth
The New Anglia Growth Hub will not have all the answers, but it may possibly highlight ideas and aspects of support, which may be of help.
The Panellists:
The Manager, Richard Glinn, will give an overview of the Growth Hub’s history, structure and work, including the grant opportunities which are currently available.
Neil Mason is a Business Growth Adviser and one of the team covering Norfolk. Neil will describe a day in the life of a Growth Hub Adviser, mention some of the types of businesses he is currently working with and provide greater detail on the grant application process.
Dr Morgan Potter, manages the Scale Up New Anglia programme, which essentially is about helping businesses move ‘to the next level’. Morgan will explain the initiative in greater detail. Learn more about Scale Up New Anglia
