The Big Debate: We should fear advances in Artificial Intelligence
The Big Debate: We should fear advances in Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a controversial subject, with the late, great Professor Stephen Hawking warning in 2014 that the development of full AI could spell the end of the human race. But should we fear advances in AI?
The Institute of Directors Norfolk, in partnership Barclays Eagle Labs Norwich, invites you to a panel debate about the potential benefits and consequences of the advancements of AI, at The Enterprise Centre, UEA on Thursday 19 July, 18:00-20:30.
The event, sponsored by UEA and Price Bailey, will bring together a panel of experts covering the fields of AI Developers, Legal, Academia and Cyber Security to debate what AI will mean for all of us.
The panel, chaired by Kieran Miles – Founder of KakeCo and #DigitalCity, will consist of:
- Chand Chudasama – Price Bailey LLP
- Dom Davis – Tech Marionette
- David Higgins – 4ITSec
- Jodie Hosmer – Mills & Reeve
- Kane Halsley – Pickr
- Dr Gareth Jones – University of East Anglia
- Ana Perales – Barclays
There will be refreshments and canapés served before and after the debate, with opportunities for networking and further discussion.
We are asking for questions to be submitted in advance, to facilitate a robust and lively debate.

Norfolk’s Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) in-person workshop
We would like to invite you to join an in-person workshop session Tuesday 18th June, between 8:30am and 10:00am to learn more about and contribute to the creation of Norfolk’s Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS), a new statutory plan to help enhance and restore nature across the county.
Declining biodiversity is increasing physical risks to businesses and the wider finance system. The overall goal of the LNRS is to halt this decline, which is why your views as an economic stakeholder are so important to us. Your business may already have a sustainability initiative in place that involves nature, may be considering one, or may not be in a position to consider this now. No matter your position, we value your perspective and want to make sure Norfolk’s LNRS accounts for it.
As well as having the opportunity to network with other stakeholders, contribute to the development of the strategy, discuss your priorities and current nature based actions, in this session you’ll have the chance to consider:
– How better outcomes for nature reduce long-term risks by playing a major role in climate adaptation, economic development and human health and wellbeing.
– What role nature recovery plays in the process of protecting and improving nature, and why the involvement of businesses like yours is crucial to success.
Norfolk’s strategy is being delivered by Norfolk County Council, who are currently seeking input from a wide range of stakeholders. Overall, the LNRS is being supported and developed by the Norfolk and Suffolk Nature Recovery Partnership, and you can find out more information from our website https://www.nsnrp.org/
Refreshments will be provided, please let us know about any dietary requirement you may have.
If you have any questions or would like further details, please contact the team at [email protected]
