BCC calls for action to cut the cost of doing business

The British Chambers of Commerce is urging the Chancellor to use the Autumn Budget 2026 to reduce business costs and restore confidence in investment, recruitment and growth.

Its research highlights the growing pressure on businesses from employer National Insurance, the National Living Wage, business rates and compliance costs. A typical mid-sized firm with 50 employees and £5m turnover now faces around £1.98m a year in domestic policy-driven costs, up £827,000 since 2016.

For Norfolk businesses, controlling these costs is vital to supporting investment, creating jobs and strengthening our local economy.
