Sovereign AI: Why Keeping Data In-House Matters More Than Ever
AI is the topic nobody in business can stop talking about right now. But there’s usually an elephant in the room: where does all that data actually go?
That question was front and centre this week when our founder and CTO, William Sachiti, took to the stage at the AI-Digital Health Conference 2026, hosted by UKDHC at the Royal College of Physicians in London.
While the event had a healthcare focus, the message we brought is one we think every business, in any sector, should be paying attention to: you don’t have to hand your data over to the cloud to benefit from AI.
Our technology, Athena, runs entirely on-premises. No cloud, no third-party servers, no data quietly heading off to who-knows-where. Everything stays exactly where it’s put, under the organisation’s own control. It’s what the industry is starting to call “sovereign AI”, and it’s a pretty simple idea at heart: keep the intelligence, lose the exposure.
For any business handling sensitive information, whether that’s patient records, financial data, HR files or client details, that’s a big deal. Most AI tools on the market ask you to trust someone else with your data to make the tech work. We built Athena to flip that on its head.
Judging by the room, that message landed. Conversations throughout the day kept circling back to the same thing: people want the benefits of AI, but they want it on their own terms, without the compliance headaches and security risks that come with sending data outside the building.
We’re proud to be a local business flying the flag for a different way of thinking about AI, one built on trust, security and doing right by the organisations and people who rely on us.
We’d love to hear from any Chamber members thinking through their own AI and data strategy.
