Helping Children Navigate Big Feelings: New 10-Week Wellbeing Programme Launches in Norwich
Children experience a huge range of emotions as they grow, but understanding those feelings and knowing how to manage them doesn’t always come naturally.
For some children, worry, frustration, anger, sadness or overwhelm can become difficult to express. Others may struggle with confidence, bottle up their feelings or find it hard to explain what’s happening inside.
At Eudaemonia Wellbeing Centre in Norwich, we believe that giving children the language and tools to understand their emotions early can help them build skills they can carry with them throughout childhood and beyond.
That’s why we’re delighted to be launching Big Feelings, our new 10-week children’s emotional wellbeing programme, beginning on Saturday 14 November 2026.
What is Big Feelings?
Big Feelings is a supportive, small-group programme for children aged 6–11, designed to help children develop their emotional understanding, confidence, resilience and practical coping skills.
Rather than teaching children that certain emotions are “good” or “bad”, the programme helps them recognise that all feelings are valid — it’s learning how to understand and respond to those feelings that matters.
Through age-appropriate activities, discussion, creative exercises and practical strategies, children will have opportunities to explore their emotions in a safe, engaging and supportive environment.
Building skills for everyday life
Across the programme, children will explore areas including:
- Recognising and naming different emotions
- Understanding how emotions can feel in the body
- Identifying triggers and early signs of becoming overwhelmed
- Developing confidence talking about feelings
- Understanding anger, frustration and other strong emotions
- Learning practical calming and emotional regulation strategies
- Building confidence and resilience
- Developing empathy and understanding other people’s feelings
- Knowing when and how to ask for help
- Creating their own emotional wellbeing toolkit
The aim isn’t to stop children experiencing difficult emotions. Difficult feelings are a normal part of life.
Instead, we want children to develop the understanding and strategies to think:
“I know what I’m feeling. I understand what might be happening, and I have things I can try that may help.”
Small, age-appropriate groups
To make the experience appropriate for different developmental stages, Big Feelings will run as two separate Saturday groups:
Ages 6–8: Saturdays, 9:30am–10:30am
Ages 9–11: Saturdays, 11:00am–12:00pm
Both programmes begin on Saturday 14 November 2026 at Eudaemonia Wellbeing Centre, Norwich.
Group sizes will intentionally remain small, allowing children to feel comfortable, included and supported.
Children will be encouraged to participate but will never be pressured to share personal experiences with the group if they don’t feel comfortable doing so.
Working alongside parents and carers
Supporting children’s emotional wellbeing doesn’t stop when a session finishes.
Parents and carers are an important part of the journey, so families will also receive information and practical ideas that can help reinforce some of the strategies children are learning during the programme.
Children do not need a diagnosis to attend Big Feelings.
The programme is designed as early emotional wellbeing support rather than therapy or mental health treatment. Before joining, parents and carers will be asked to provide information about their child so that we can ensure the group is an appropriate form of support for them.
Part of a wider commitment to children’s wellbeing
The launch of Big Feelings forms part of Eudaemonia Wellbeing Centre’s growing focus on children’s and family wellbeing and early intervention.
Alongside supporting families directly, we are keen to develop relationships with organisations across Norwich and Norfolk that work with children and families.
We would particularly welcome conversations with children’s services, family support teams, charities, community organisations, SEND professionals, schools and other services interested in referring families or exploring funded and commissioned children’s wellbeing provision.
Our ambition is to make high-quality, accessible emotional wellbeing support available to more children before difficulties have the opportunity to escalate.
