5,000 Thai Meals for Norfolk NHS Staff | Allstar Systems
Supporting NHS Staff: Delivering 5,000 Meals During COVID-19
During the first, highly uncertain months of the COVID-19 pandemic, communities across Norfolk looked for meaningful ways to support NHS staff working under extraordinary pressure.
Beginning in May 2020, members of Norfolk’s Thai community came together through the Wat Arun Temple in Norwich. Their mission was simple but powerful: to fund and prepare freshly made Thai meals for the dedicated staff at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH).
Allstar Systems was honoured to support this initiative by coordinating collections and using our company fleet to transport these meals safely to the hospital frontline.
A Community-Wide Response
This project united people from across Norfolk’s Thai community. Volunteers generously donated their time, money, and ingredients to prepare the food week after week.
While the number of meals in each delivery varied, the shared objective remained constant: to provide NHS staff with fresh, comforting food while recognizing their tireless work during one of the most challenging periods in health service history.
Mobilising Our Fleet for the Cause
Allstar Systems’ primary contribution to the project was logistics, transport, and coordination.
We repurposed our company vans to collect meals from various preparation sites, creating a dependable delivery link between the volunteers cooking the food and the NHS teams receiving it. Alongside transportation, Allstar Systems acted as a liaison, representing Wat Arun Temple and the wider Thai community in communications with the hospital.
5,000 Meals Delivered
Over the course of the campaign, approximately 5,000 freshly prepared Thai meals were safely delivered to NHS staff.
Every weekly collection required precise coordination between volunteers, chefs, drivers, and hospital contacts. This massive logistical achievement belonged entirely to the community; Allstar Systems was simply proud to provide the vehicles, time, and organization necessary to help the food reach its destination.
Recognition from the N&N Hospitals Charity
In October 2020, the initiative was nominated at the Norfolk & Norwich Hospitals Charity’s annual Charity Champion Awards.
A special category was created to recognize community support provided during the pandemic. Representing Wat Arun Temple and Norfolk’s Thai community, Allstar Systems accepted the Charity Champion COVID-19 Award. While our name may have been on the certificate, this award truly recognized the combined, selfless efforts of everyone who funded, prepared, and packaged the meals.
A Message of Thanks from the NHS
The hospital recorded a heartfelt video to thank everyone involved in the campaign. This video serves as a direct record of what these deliveries meant to the hospital staff, making the story far more personal than words alone can express.

More Than Just an Award
This campaign was never started for recognition. It began purely out of a desire to help NHS staff navigate a period of immense strain.
For Allstar Systems, this project was a powerful reminder that our company resources can serve a purpose far beyond everyday business. The vans normally used to serve heating and plumbing customers across Norfolk became part of a vital community lifeline.
