I am Alasdair Wilcock, an experienced professional who has worked in a number of organisations over 25 years. My experience includes utilities, manufacturing organisations and charities.

My considerable experience is supported by appropriate qualifications and professional memberships, including: MBA from Cranfield University Chartered Engineer Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers Diploma in Marketing Member of the Institute of Operations Management Member of the Chartered Management Institute

In a recent role I led a £100m turnover division with about 200 employees. This day-to-day operational management including customer involvement had significant change management was layered on top due to a company-wide transfromation programme. Previously, as business lead for an urgent business change, I delivered a significant change project to meet new regulatory requirements. Other experience includes managing a £30m turnover factory and project management of capital spend projects worth about £5m each.

Smith of Honingham was established in 1919 by Herbert Smith, and in 2019 we celebrated 100 years of building in Norfolk and North Suffolk. 

After the First World War the job as a carpenter Herbert Smith had left on the Honingham Estate was no longer available. With a wife and four children to support he decided to start work on his own account. Herbert’s son Bert worked full time for his father in 1922, and George joined them some 10 years later as an apprentice bricklayer.

George’s sons John and Alan joined the company in the 1970s, followed by the fourth generation in the early 2000s.

Since our formation in 1919 the business has grown and today we undertake a broad spectrum of projects from housing developments to public buildings, education and commercial projects.
