GRS is the country’s independent supplier of construction materials, from low-carbon recycled aggregates and decorative landscaping products to high-volume bulk aggregates for some of the country’s biggest construction projects.

We also provide end-to-end transport solutions, sourcing the most suitable materials and making efficient use of road, rail, river and sea freight to deliver them as sustainably as possible. We’re a leading provider of waste removal services, offering total solutions for recovery and reuse of unwanted construction, demolition and excavation waste.

GRS employs a dedicated team of 800 people nationwide who together ensure we trade and transport around 20 million tonnes of materials each year. Besides supporting the UK’s biggest infrastructure schemes, we also supply leading builders merchants and garden retailers with a range of decorative gravels, concrete blocks, stone and porcelain paving, pre-mixed asphalt, concrete and mortar, resin-bound surfacing systems, outdoor play surfaces, rock salt and more!

Smith of Honingham was established in 1919 by Herbert Smith, and in 2019 we celebrated 100 years of building in Norfolk and North Suffolk. 

After the First World War the job as a carpenter Herbert Smith had left on the Honingham Estate was no longer available. With a wife and four children to support he decided to start work on his own account. Herbert’s son Bert worked full time for his father in 1922, and George joined them some 10 years later as an apprentice bricklayer.

George’s sons John and Alan joined the company in the 1970s, followed by the fourth generation in the early 2000s.

Since our formation in 1919 the business has grown and today we undertake a broad spectrum of projects from housing developments to public buildings, education and commercial projects.

Hautbois Activity Centre is the perfect multi-purpose events venue, with expertise in delivering activity visits,  relaxing residential breaks, motivational training events and special occasions for groups of all ages and abilities!

We are situated in 28 acres of grounds around a beautiful 19th century house beside the River Bure.

With over 25 years of experience and a team of highly trained staff, we deliver over 24 outdoor activities and bespoke opportunities for learning and discovery, tailored to each client’s needs. With our own private cut providing easy access to the river we can plan your visit to inspire and challenge within a safe and trusted environment. We pride ourselves in offering fun and uplifting activities which inspire and motivate, helping to develop personal skills and confidence.  

Hautbois House has a range of training facilities including a training room equipped with projector, Wi-Fi and hearing loop, which seats up to 80 theatre style, as well as other training/break out rooms.  We can provide full catering for your event with all food cooked on-site.  The house has 12 bedrooms (eight en-suite), sleeping a total of 45 guests over two floors. There is a lift providing access to the first floor, leading to four accessible bedrooms, including one with a wet room. In addition, we also have seven campsites on the estate, accommodating up to 340 campers, and a fantastic yurt village.

We are the perfect multi-activity events venue, with expertise in delivering motivational training events, activity visits, relaxing residential breaks and special occasions for groups of all ages and abilities.

Owned by Girlguiding Anglia, we welcome bookings from corporate groups and private events as well as from our guiding members, schools, colleges and youth groups.
