Electrical apprentices at the College of West Anglia once again had the opportunity to connect with leading voices from across the electrical industry as the college hosted its annual ‘Future Faraday’ event at the King’s Lynn campus.
Named in honour of pioneering scientist and electrical engineer Michael Faraday, the event aims to inspire the next generation of electricians by linking classroom learning with real-world industry insight and innovation.
The event welcomed representatives from major organisations across the electrical sector, including NICEIC, EAL, ECA and Scolmore, who delivered presentations and Q&A sessions to apprentices studying electrical installation at the college.
Students heard directly from industry professionals on topics including emerging technologies, career progression, professional standards and the future of the electrical trade, helping apprentices gain a clearer understanding of the opportunities available within the sector.
The event also explored developments in areas such as smart home technology, EV charging infrastructure and renewable energy systems, reinforcing the importance of staying informed in a rapidly evolving industry.
Martin O’Dell, from Scolmore said, “Scolmore is proud to work alongside NET in supporting the next generation of electro-technical students. Providing opportunities for learners to engage with industry professionals is invaluable for helping them build confidence, develop their skills and prepare for future careers in the sector.”
Henry Wright, Lecturer in Electrical Engineering at the College of West Anglia, said, “The Future Faraday event continues to be an invaluable experience for our apprentices. Bringing industry experts into college helps students understand the wider opportunities within the sector and gives them insight into the technologies and skills shaping the future of electrical installation.”
The annual event forms part of the college’s ongoing commitment to strengthening links between education and industry, ensuring apprentices are equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for successful careers in the electrical sector.
