Continuous Improvement in Action – How Peerless is Investing in people, precess and technology in 2026

At Peerless Plastics & Coatings, continuous improvement has always been about more than investing in new machinery. It means continually improving our technology, processes, products, people and working environment – and ensuring that growth is supported by stronger systems, greater capability and consistently high standards.

2026 has been one of the most significant years in the development of Peerless Plastics & Coatings Ltd, with major investment across manufacturing, R&D, quality, environmental controls, people development and infrastructure.

Following a sustained period of growth, we have continued to reinvest in the business with a programme designed not simply to increase capacity, but to improve quality, consistency, efficiency and our ability to develop increasingly advanced surface technologies for customers in the UK and internationally.

£250,000 investment in coating technology

One of the most significant developments during 2026 has been the completion of a major programme of upgrades across our coating operations.

Our sheet coating process has benefited from substantial improvements to the spray application environment, including dedicated temperature and humidity control.

Controlling the conditions in which specialist coatings are applied gives Peerless greater control over the entire application process, improving repeatability between production batches and helping us deliver the consistently high optical and surface quality required by increasingly demanding applications.

These improvements have been combined with upgrades to airflow, filtration and process controls, followed by an extensive optimisation programme carried out by our engineering and technical teams. The results have been significant.

Through better control of application parameters and spray efficiency, we have been able to reduce lacquer consumption by more than 20% on certain coating processes, without compromising coating performance or finished quality.

That represents an important improvement from both a commercial and environmental perspective: using less material, reducing waste and making our processes more efficient while maintaining the performance our customers expect.

New UV curing capability for sheet and 3D components

Further investment has included completely upgraded UV curing systems across both our sheet coating and 3D component coating operations.

The increased curing capability allows coatings to be cured under tightly controlled and optimised conditions and supports the continued expansion of Peerless into high-performance, long-term weatherable coating technologies.

This is particularly important as we develop applications requiring greater outdoor durability, UV stability, abrasion resistance and extended service life.

Our objective is not simply to apply a coating that performs well when it leaves our factory. We want to engineer coating systems that continue performing throughout the life of the component.

The new curing technology therefore provides another important platform for the development and commercialisation of advanced products within our PolyGuard^® and PeeraGuard™ ranges, as well as specialist coatings for three-dimensional moulded components.

Building a dedicated R&D capability

Innovation remains central to the Peerless growth strategy. During recent years we have progressively expanded our development work into coatings offering characteristics including hard coating, abrasion and chemical resistance, anti-glare, anti-fog, ESD/static dissipation and NIR/solar control, alongside specialist UV and weather-resistant technologies.

During 2026 we completed our dedicated R&D and test laboratory, giving our technical team greater capability to develop, evaluate and optimise coating systems internally.

Investment has included new laboratory and testing equipment, enhanced inspection technology and a high-resolution quality camera system, allowing us to better understand surface quality and identify opportunities for further process improvement.

Our development model increasingly combines internal R&D with specialist material suppliers, laboratories and testing partners, allowing performance to be independently validated where required.

This approach has already been demonstrated through customer projects where alternative materials and coating systems have been subjected to comparative abrasion, chemical and impact testing before being approved for safety-critical applications.

The emphasis throughout is the same: innovation must deliver measurable value and proven performance for
the customer.

Investment beyond coatings

The coating programme forms part of a much broader programme of investment during 2026.

Earlier in the year Peerless introduced new industrial digital print technology and additional CNC routing capability, extending both our capacity and the range of integrated manufacturing services we can provide.

These technologies complement our coating operations
and allow us to combine machining, printing, specialist surface treatment and assembly within a single UK manufacturing partner.

Development of our 3D component coating line has similarly opened new opportunities to transfer specialist surface technologies historically associated with sheet plastics onto moulded and three-dimensional components.

Supporting investments have also included improved material-handling and lifting equipment, factory environmental controls and further improvements to the production environment.

Together, these developments are creating a manufacturing platform capable of supporting increasingly complex projects across sectors including transport, engineering, industrial machinery, medical, electronics, defence and specialist glazing.

Continuous improvement is

also about people

Technology alone does not create a continuous-improvement culture.

An equally important focus throughout 2026 has therefore been the continued development of our people, management systems and internal standards.

We are delighted that Anna Zhukovska joined our management team having been promoted to Compliance Manager, recognising both her contribution to the business and the increasing importance of compliance within our organisation.

Anna and our dedicated employee committees have made significant progress across Quality, Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Training and 5S, helping ensure continuous improvement is embedded across departments rather than becoming the responsibility of a single individual.

The committee structure encourages employees from different areas of the business to participate directly in improving working practices, raising standards, identifying risks and suggesting practical improvements.

Training has become an increasing focus, alongside clearer responsibilities for departmental management, structured communication, routine reviews and greater accountability for quality, safety, environmental performance and workplace organisation.

Our work in these areas supports our ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.

Anna also joins Violetta Golan on our Executive Team, as Peerless continues to build a strong, capable and increasingly diverse leadership team.

Internal development and promotion remain important to us. As the company grows, our aim is to give talented people the opportunity, training and support required to grow with it.

Continuous improvement and sustainability

Efficiency and environmental performance increasingly go hand in hand.

Reducing lacquer consumption, improving first-time quality, reducing rejects, better controlling processes and moving towards more energy-efficient curing technology all contribute directly to lowering the resources required to manufacture each component.

These developments sit alongside our wider environmental programme, which continues to examine energy consumption, waste reduction, recycling and opportunities to introduce more efficient manufacturing technology.

For Peerless, sustainability is not treated as a separate initiative from manufacturing improvement. In many cases the best environmental improvements are also the best engineering improvements: use less material, consume less energy, produce fewer rejects and make products that last longer.

Preparing for the next stage

of growth

The investment also reflects the changing scale and international reach of Peerless.

Products developed and manufactured at our Thetford facility are increasingly being supplied through a growing network of international customers and distributors across the UK, Europe, Asia and North America.

Our PolyGuard^® range of specialist coated plastic sheet continues to create new opportunities internationally, and we are progressively expanding both the range and the technical capabilities behind it.

To support this growth, the next phase of our investment programme will include a warehouse extension at our Thetford manufacturing site.

The additional space will enable us to carry greater stocks of key materials, improving availability and helping us support the growing network of PolyGuard^® distributors and customers requiring shorter lead times and dependable supply.

It will also free valuable manufacturing space within our existing facility as production volumes continue to increase.

The continuous-improvement journey continues

There is still considerably more that we want to achieve.

New coatings are under development, additional applications for our existing technologies are being explored, our international distributor network continues to grow and further improvements to our manufacturing processes are already being planned.

We also continue to engage with customers, suppliers, industry associations, exhibitions and technical events to understand emerging requirements and identify where our technology can provide practical solutions.

The progress made so far in 2026 gives us an excellent platform from which to continue that development.

Ultimately, however, continuous improvement is not defined by the amount invested in equipment or buildings.

It is a culture.

It means asking whether a process can be safer, whether quality can be better, whether a material can perform for longer, whether waste can be reduced, whether somebody can be better trained and whether we can provide a better solution for our customers.

At Peerless Plastics & Coatings, continuous improvement and quality are central to everything we do – and the progress made throughout 2026 represents another significant step in that journey.
