Blooming Marvellous! Captain Fawcett & royal florist Simon Lycett proudly present ‘Botanica’.
Captain Fawcett and Simon Lycett are proud to present a limited edition collaboration: Botanica Moustache Wax. An English garden encapsulated in a tin.
Award-winning gentleman’s grooming brand Captain Fawcett, based in King’s Lynn, has collaborated with RHS Ambassador Simon Lycett, floral designer to His Majesty The King and the extraordinary vision behind the flowers for Four Weddings and a Funeral.
Television personality, author and one of only two cross-palace suppliers to Historic Royal Palaces, Simon has spent over two decades bringing his fabulous floral artistry to the grandest occasions of state, royal households, intimate dinners and magical weddings. Among his most celebrated commissions: the wedding reception of HRH King Charles III and HRH Queen Camilla and HRH Princess Eugenie and Mr. Jack Brooksbank’s wedding at Windsor Castle.
Launched for summer celebrations, weddings, garden parties and fine gatherings, Botanica is a gentleman’s garden at the pinnacle of summer. Its scent, a peppery green accord of scented pelargonium leaf and crushed wild rocket, opens with herbs and cut green stem – evoking celery, wild mint, a squeeze of bitter orange – before deepening into cedar, vetiver and patchouli. Rocket’s rakish bite is captured through black pepper, vegetal, layered, fresh and savoury. A fragrance for the gentleman unafraid of delight.
The collector’s tin carries an original 19th century botanical lithograph of the pelargonium: a beautiful object made to be kept long after the wax is gone.
Timed to coincide with the great British flower show season, from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show through to the RHS Sandringham Flower Show in July, making its debut on the grounds of His Majesty The King’s estate, Botanica arrives with particular resonance for moustachioed gentlemen of Norfolk.
“It’s not often a flower man like me gets to create something for that temple of masculinity the barbershop, so I couldn’t be more thrilled to have waltzed a summer bouquet through the door. The leaves of scented pelargonium smell of old English gardens, like the love child of roses and lemons. And rocket self-seeds between our flagstones so when you walk, you crush it underfoot and get this wonderful peppery sharpness. When I smelled Botanica, I thought: Captain Fawcett, you’ve got it. It’s like a waft of scent floating over the garden wall, and the warmth of the beeswax underneath is the scent of a perfect English afternoon. I smell bloody gorgeous. It’s blooming lovely.”
– Simon Lycett, floral designer, author, TV personality & RHS Ambassador
“Simon is the best in the business although when he bowled up to HQ with a basket of pelargoniums and wild rocket I thought, good lord, we’re making a salad. But the fragrance released when the leaves are crushed is absolutely fantastic. The joy of a garden on a perfect afternoon. Quite simply, it gives a man permission to feel happy. I am hugely delighted to present the gentleman’s stiffener, with a twist. One must never allow one’s stem to wilt.”
– Richard Finney MBE, founder, Captain Fawcett
The collaboration was hatched over afternoon tea at Claridge’s and developed over several months.
The result is an affirmation that to care for oneself is not vanity but vitality, and as such, an exceptionally handsome gift for weddings, Father’s Day and every fine occasion throughout the social season.
From the fine emporiums of Jarrolds and Bakers & Larners here in Norfolk to barbershops and retailers in over 50 countries worldwide, Captain Fawcett is proud to carry the bold Norfolk spirit wherever the journey leads.
