Banham Zoo in Norfolk is delighted to announce the arrival of Timur, a young Amur tiger, from Cologne Zoo in Germany.
The two-year-old male tiger arrived at the end of July, marking an exciting new chapter for the Norfolk zoo and an important milestone in the conservation of one of the world’s most iconic and endangered species.
Timur has spent his first few days exploring his new habitat behind the scenes as he becomes familiar with his surroundings, new keepers and daily routines.
Visitors may begin to catch glimpses of him over the coming days as he gains confidence and starts to explore his outdoor habitat at his own pace.
Ross Snipp, Zoo Director at Banham Zoo, said:
“We’re thrilled to welcome Timur. His arrival represents an important step in our commitment to the conservation of endangered species and the collaborative work carried out by zoos across Europe. He has travelled well and is settling into his new surroundings.
“Alongside the arrivals of Grant’s zebra Zoom and tapir Inca, it’s been an incredible summer for the zoo, and we’re excited for our visitors to meet Timur as he continues to settle into his new home.”
The zoo would also like to thank the hundreds of supporters who contributed to its recent tiger fundraising campaign. Their generosity is helping to support the care of both Timur and resident female Amur tiger Mishka, while also raising awareness of the vital conservation work needed to protect this endangered species.
