To kick off this year with something a little different, Birketts have launched an exciting series of speaker events under the theme of ‘Gender in Business Leadership’ – these events are aimed at any senior leaders who are interested in or supportive of diversity as a topic.
We have lined up a series of inspirational women who are leaders in their field. They will each discuss a range of topics that we think will have wide appeal to many and should make for an engaging and inspiring session.
On 4 March we will hear from Mandy Hickson:
Mandy Hickson overcame huge obstacles and setbacks before realising her dream of becoming a Royal Air Force pilot. Mandy was the second woman to fly the Tornado GR4 operationally and shares her experience to help us communicate better, empower ourselves and others, and draw the very best from the team around us.
It was early on that Mandy learned not to shy away from failure. After two unsuccessful attempts at the RAF flying aptitude tests, reaching the limit of times that they can be taken, her goals appeared to be unattainable. Undeterred, Mandy went on to join the RAF.
Stressing the need to remain calm under pressure, leading from the front, and how to make strategic decisions when faced with risk, Mandy shares how to communicate, empower and how to draw the best from herself and others.
She continues to support the success of women as Founder and Co-Director of Inspiring Women for Work (IWFW).
How to join the event:
We have structured them as early evening events in the hope that we can bring a little light relief as well as some fresh inspiration to people in these difficult times.

So many of us struggle with that pesky imposter syndrome, and limiting beliefs and fears about ourselves that hold us back.
And with the pandemic, and this period of sustained uncertainty which has tipped our lives upside down, our confidence may well have taken a knock. Or perhaps, even a battering.
So, this international women’s day, we’re hosting a workshop aimed at women that allows us to share tips and techniques and ask questions that will help you to build confidence, find self-belief, and free your ambition.
Because we all deserve to believe in ourselves, fulfil our potential and know: anything is possible.
Empowered Women Empower Women:
Places are limited as we want to create a safe and supportive space for conversation.
We would like to make a difference for other women through the workshop and so we are asking for a small donation of up to £5 to join us. This will be donated to Women’s Aid, a charity which does such important work. Home – Women’s Aid

There’s no doubt that Covid-19 has drastically accelerated the digitalisation of how we act as both businesses and customers.
Retail sales are the worst they’ve been for 25 years, with a huge reduction in the number of physical stores available. When executives were asked how long they expected it would take for an increase in customer demand for online sales, they estimated it would be up to 585 days. In reality, it happened in just under 22 days.
The world around us has changed. Fast. And it’s abundantly clear that we’re not ‘going back to normal’. Businesses need to respond, and PWC recently claimed 94% of manufacturers are adjusting their business to achieve new growth.
But amongst the doom and gloom of physical retail, online sales have increased by 46% and statistics have shown that 89% of customers start their purchase journey with a search engine.
Brands that are able to directly build a relationship with their customers and build a D2C channel are thriving.
This adjustment is not short-term or purely reactive. These are 5-10 year strategies and those who fail to adapt risk being left behind.
Join us on 11/03/21 at 11am for 45 minutes of insights into the potential opportunities for your business to create new revenue streams and adapt in the digital world, in the first edition of Buxton Insights.
We’ll be explaining the potential D2C opportunities for your business, and sharing insight into our journey with a British B2B manufacturer, and how we have successfully built them a proven, revenue-generating D2C model.
We will be discussing:
– What it takes to step into the world of D2C and online business
– The importance and Design Thinking techniques to understanding what drives customer behaviour
– How to build direct relationships with your customers
– How you can open new revenue streams and create opportunities for growth
