Kevin and Colin discuss how focussing on job quality can help businesses and workers be ready to tackle new challenges, even in a crisis. They offer evidence-based insight and guidance on the importance of employee engagement and wellbeing for productivity, performance and innovation in business.
Key points from the discussion:
· Colin says that the COVID-19 crisis will challenge each business to change how they organise work, so, as part of this necessary redesign, why not build in practices that support engagement and wellbeing?
· Kevin outlines the different approaches businesses can take to tackle this re-design, e.g. by training managers and building team cohesion through social contact and group activities.
· Colin and Kevin finish by suggesting that ‘job crafting’ – where workers are given the resources and support to improve the quality of their own jobs – can become part of everyday processes to improve business.

As we all re-emerge at different times, in different places and in different ways, let’s make sure we take these three important steps together.
Here’s the fourth in this series of videos aimed at supporting people’s mental health and wellbeing. I’ve been waiting for this time, with restrictions easing in some places around the World, to share more helpful thoughts with you.
As we walk forwards we are emerging into a world transformed – as we too are transformed in different ways.
The 3 steps I’m suggesting sit at the heart of what it means to be human. We must care for ourselves and others, build strong and resilient relationships and accept our approaches need to adjust.
A huge thank you to Lightweight Media for your continued support, creative ideas and for being quite simply brilliant! As we launch my business’s #youtube channel I massively appreciate your expanding role in managing my social media presence.

Remote working has become far more common during the pandemic. There are hints that working completely or mostly from home will become the ‘new normal’ in some organisations.
Workers are trying to establish what this means for them on an individual basis – for example, around motivation and work-life balance. Managers have a role to play in helping them find a balance that works for both workers and the business.
Researchers from the University of East Anglia have brought together pieces of evidence to share with you in a handy management checklist, focused on improving the wellbeing and productivity of your workforce.

In this video, our mental health champions and directors talk about what they struggle with, what their challenges are, particularly around working from home, and what they do to overcome these.
We hope that this video will help people feel connected, increase our understanding of the challenges people face and normalise the conversation around wellbeing and mental health, alongside ideas on how we can keep our spirits up and stay motivated.
At Pure, we have mental health champions in each of our offices. Their role is to increase awareness and understanding of mental health in our office and offer a listening ear and support to anyone who is struggling with their mental health.
Each of our champions attended a one-day training course to increase their knowledge of mental health and stress in the workplace, to reduce stigma and discrimination towards mental health, to notice signs and symptoms of mental health disorders, and how to spot early warning signs of mental ill-health.
If you would like to know more about our approach to looking after the wellbeing and mental health of our team, contact Ellie Steinfeldt – Learning and Development Advisor at Pure.
A resilient skillset is now, more than ever, considered one of the most important areas in which we can develop. Many people are now referring to resilience as a ‘must-have’.
All the skills required to be able to persevere, learn from our perceived failures, maintain motivation and perspective start with how we approach and process external events – our mindset. From the boardroom to the shop floor, we need to be able to reduce the cycles of stress, anxiety and fear that negatively impact wellbeing, communication and productivity.
Because who couldn’t do with some ideas, sharing and tips right now as a hard winter of uncertainty approaches?
This is an FFT (to quote Brene Brown) – a Flippin’ First Time for all of us and it’s only natural that some organisations will be coping better than others. Free of blame and judgement we want to share our experiences, practical ideas, tips, mistakes and learning simply from the benefit of others.
We’ll focus on the pressures of business continuity and looking after our workforce, while aligning regulatory and client requirements. As we’ve adapted, we’ve learnt more about ourselves and our business, and we will share what has and hasn’t worked.
By being honest about the challenges, the personal pain and what’s worked, we can build a community of people supporting each other and doing as many of the best bits as possible.
