Jarrolds Logistics supporting local communities with The Feed

At Jarrold Logistics, we believe in giving back to the community that supports us. That’s why we were proud to step in and donate a team and a van on Thursday 12 December to help Chris Elliott and the fantastic team at The Feed with stock deliveries for their vital work.

The Feed’s mission is to ??????? ??????????? ?? ???????, ensuring each and every person has the support to eat well, live well, and feel connected. They are making a huge impact in Norfolk, they received a generous donation of food stock – more than needed for their Social Supermarket.

Together, we helped transport the surplus to Norse Group, who work with the Norfolk Community Foundation and the Nourishing Norfolk network ensuring this vital stock reaches food hubs across the county.

The power of working together to fight food poverty and support sustainable local solutions. We’re proud to have played a small part in this big effort to support.

A big thank you to The Feed, Norse, and the Norfolk Community Foundation for their dedication to making a difference.

Anglian receives top environmental commendation from Green Apple

Attleborough based multi-service contractor Anglian, has been commended in the Green Apple Environment Awards 2024 for its Waste Recycling division.

The Green Apple Environment Awards are presented by The Green Organisation – an international, independent, non-profit, non-political, environment group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice. Anglian was commended in this year’s awards for the growth and future development of its Waste Division including investment made to expand its onsite recycling operation.

Established in 2007 as a Demolition company, Anglian has always processed waste collected from every project, but as the company has grown, the requirement and opportunity to expand this area has increased. The creation of a dedicated Waste Recycling division in 2022 saw Anglian change its existing permit to allow sorting and treatment of commercial waste at its 10-acre site in Attleborough. Ongoing investment has enabled improvements in the yard to allow effective waste segregation and the installation of new machinery for final waste treatment processes. Anglian is in phase two of a four-phase development plan for the facility.

Toni Storer, director at Anglian, said: “We are delighted to receive the Green Apple commendation which is testament to the investment and hard work of the team at Anglian. Waste has always been part of our business and by developing our facility in Attleborough, we have been able to maximise recycling rates from every job we undertake and offer businesses in the region a more sustainable way to dispose of their waste. The site project is ongoing and forms part of our development plans at Anglian, which will continue to support the growth of our other divisions.”

A multi-service contractor, Anglian’s divisions include Anglian Demolition & Asbestos, Anglian Scaffolding, Anglian Earthworks & Remediation and Anglian Waste Recycling. For more details, see www.angliandemo.co.uk.

National Recognition for Outstanding Achievement

We wanted to acknowledge that Louise Howlett, R A Brown Heating Service, Commercial Director, was recognised with an award at the 30th H&V News awards on 28th November 2024 at the London Hilton Metropole.

Louise received an Outstanding Achievement of the Year award in recognition of her career within the industry, in particular she was recognised for her passion and focus on growing the skills needed within the heat pump sector for the next generation of engineers and installers.  Over the last 12 years the company has grown from 7 to 22 employees and since 2000 have trained 27 apprentices to become fully trained heating engineers who specialise in heat pumps.

Louise was attending the awards as a judge, as she had been involved in judging 3 categories at the H&V News awards this year and this award was completely unexpected.

R A Brown won its first H&V News award in 2013 and we have continued to be recognised for our heat pump installations each year.

We are really proud to have continued to grow our business and contribute to the industry on a wider level, for our director to be recognised for their contribution.

We are the local specialist installer in the Norfolk and Suffolk area who specialise in installing air and ground source heat pumps, mechanical ventilation heat recovery, underfloor heating and air conditioning.

Veteran reunited with family last Christmas is the focus of new Regular Giving campaign

Dwayne, an Armed Forces veteran who served in Afghanistan, is the focus of Walking With The Wounded’s new Regular Giving campaign. Sharing Dwayne’s story with supporters aims to increase the number of people giving regular donations, helping the charity expand its vital support for veterans and their families across the UK.

The campaign’s key message is for the public to “Step Up” and support those who have served.

While many veterans transition smoothly to civilian life, some face significant challenges.  is an example of this. Originally from Grenada, Dwayne moved to England at 16 and joined the Army. During his deployment to Afghanistan, he faced life-threatening situations but still described his service as “the best job ever.” However, after returning home to witness the birth of his son, Dwayne was attacked and stabbed by a group of young men and left temporarily paralysed. With the support of his Army colleagues, he made a remarkable recovery and returned to duty, only to be medically discharged later due to a non-freezing cold injury to his hands and feet.

Dwayne’s transition to civilian life was difficult. He struggled with flashbacks, and insomnia while running a delivery business. Eventually, the pressures became too much, and he found himself living in his car. It was a fellow veteran who encouraged him to seek help, leading to his diagnosis of Complex PTSD. Dwayne was referred to Walking With The Wounded for support, and with the guidance of Clare, a Veteran Liaison Support Officer (VSLO) at the charity, he secured housing, access to benefits. Through Clare’s careful and individualised support, and by asking tailored questions about Dwayne’s situation, she was able to uncover Dwayne’s desire to reconnect with his children over Christmas and though the individualised support model of WWTW, was able to make this a reality.

In 2023, Walking With The Wounded supported 2,131 veterans and their families through its Head Start mental health programme, support care coordination, and employment services. The charity is unique in the veteran support sector as it meets veterans face to face, and estimates to have had over 4000 cups of tea with veterans in the past year. Regular donations are crucial in enabling the charity to provide life-changing individualised support to veterans like Dwayne.

Viveca Johnstone, Individual Giving Manager at WWTW, said: “Every contribution allows us to continue helping veterans and their families. Dwayne’s story exemplifies the life-changing work we do every day for veterans and their families across the UK. However, to reach more people like Dwayne, we need more support workers and funding for our programmes. We are incredibly grateful to those who already support us. Their generosity has made a significant impact, but the demand for our services continues to grow. Please  and support us in planning for the future of more veterans like Dwayne.”

From retail to logistics: Jarrolds Logistics celebrates one year of growth with The APC

In November 2023, Jarrolds & Sons Limited, more commonly known in the retail space for its award winning department store in the heart of Norwich, took a step into the world of logistics and joined the UK’s largest independent parcel delivery network, The APC, and from there, Jarrolds Logistics was born.

Jarrolds & Sons Limited is a privately owned business that was established in Suffolk in 1770, before moving to Norwich in 1823. Originally famous for its department stores, over the years, Jarrolds has expanded its business empire and now comprises retail, property, training, marketing and business services and more recently, logistics.

Jarrolds embraced the opportunity to acquire local business, RDM Distribution Limited, which had been a part of the APC delivery network for over 20 years, after seeing that The APC’s core values and the focus on quality and service aligned with the Jarrolds & Sons brand.

The delivery firm services local businesses within the NR postcode area, and has retained all employees from its previous owner who have already built strong relationships with customers in the local area.

Tom Burdett, Group Director of Finance and Strategic Operations said: “We knew we didn’t want to miss an opportunity to be a part of the UK’s largest independent delivery network whose core values aligned so perfectly with ours. The focus on quality and customer service that The APC has was a really key point for us in making our first move into the logistics space.”

Providing a complete customer experience.

The acquisition was the start of Jarrolds’ investment into logistics solutions, focused on providing a high quality e-commerce service throughout the entire customer journey.

The brand continues to grow from strength to strength, and has been recognised in a number of prestigious awards including being awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award at EDP Business Awards and Best Independent Department Store at the Drapers Independent Awards 2024.

The firm’s revenues are now stronger than pre-Covid, in spite of the challenges the high street and the wider retail sector is facing, a point that Jarrold’s puts down to the continued loyalty they have built with customers over the years.

Jarrolds Logistics has already begun to invest in expanding and redeveloping its warehouse, which will enable the business to offer warehousing and fulfilment services to new and existing customers, in addition to its next day delivery offering.

Tom commented: “We wanted to enhance our offer to customers and provide a complete end-to-end service from warehousing and fulfilment, offering retail space in our stores and e-commerce space on our website, to delivering the product during the final mile to consumers. Our customers can feel confident knowing they are receiving the quality of service they know and love throughout the whole customer journey.”

Giving local SMEs a national presence

In addition to the many service offerings under the Jarrolds & Sons portfolio, the business is also committed to supporting the local community and local SME businesses.

Throughout the year, Jarrolds hosts business community events; welcoming guest speakers, hosting panel discussions and opening miniature markets, inviting suppliers, corporate customers and local entrepreneurs in and around Norfolk, giving people the opportunity to network with fellow local businesses and showcase their products.

As part of Jarrolds’ ongoing commitment to nurturing Norfolk’s SME business community, it also announced the launch of the Jarrolds Growth Fund earlier this year, investing in a number of local businesses. The fund will be available again in 2025, with a launch date to be announced soon.

Jonathan Smith, Chief Executive at The APC, said: “Welcoming Jarrolds Logistics into The APC network last year made perfect sense. Our shared values and commitment to supporting and championing SME businesses across the UK – offering them a unique and accessible national network that connects them to opportunities and helps drive their growth and success – is, and always will be, in the core DNA of both our businesses.”
