The dramatic changes in legislation presented by George Osborne in the spring Budget continue to develop at pace. This is the biggest shake-up of pensions in over 100 years, and is aimed to rejuvenate an industry that has long been under scrutiny. For many, retirement at age 50 seems a significant time in the future. With continued pressures on annuity rates and the increase in longevity, there has been a significant shift towards pensions. Serious care needs to be taken to ensure clients are advised properly, whereby Mattioli Woods can help. This seminar will be presented by the Mattioli Woods’ Group consultancy team, who offer an enviable level of knowledge and expertise. All consultants are professionally qualified and hold the required industry qualifications.
Programme
9.00 – Registration accompanied by tea and coffee
9.30 – Pensions update – following our seminars last Autumn, we will provide an update regarding the dramatic changes in pension law that will be implemented in April 2015. The spring Budget has proposed the biggest change to pensions in over 100 years and we explore this change and the recent document released by the government in response to the consultation period. We will discuss a variety of ways that this new legislation can be implemented, the methodology behind it, and the advantages and disadvantages it may bring.
10.15 – Auto-enrolment – short update about the auto-enrolment environment. With over four million people now automatically enrolled into a workplace pension scheme, we will investigate some of the issues the market is facing, especially in the run-up to the ‘market crunch’ in 2016/17/18.
10.45 – Tea and coffee break
11.15 – Pension solutions – this case-study-based section focuses on the flexibilities modern-day self-invested pension schemes have to offer. Whilst the headlines continue to focus on total flexibility in retirement, we look into the practical application of the legislation and how this can help with tax-efficient income planning. We also have a detailed look at tax-efficient methods to pass on pensions to the next generation.
11.45 – Integrated financial planning – continuing with the case study above, we explore other tax structures that can complement pension schemes. We investigate how these can be used to maintain control over assets, and preserve wealth for the next generation, whilst ensuring the needs of clients are met in order for them to enjoy their retirement.
12.10 – Buffet lunch

You’re invited to join us for our five-part Insight Day webinar series, that continues on Thursday 1st October.
Running a business isn’t always easy at the best of times, and in the current climate it can be harder than ever. That’s why, after its success during lockdown, we’re bringing Insight Day back. This time, with a series of webinars that will help to support and assist with a variety of essential topics when it comes to digitally marketing your business.
The second topic that will be covered is ‘Creative Advertising’, and in this session we will show you how to employ it within your business. We’ll look at the stages of a creative process, and you will learn how to understand the needs of your target market and how to build an audience. We will help you to identify the most effective media formats for concepts and present a practical roadmap to support your creativity. Most importantly, we will cover the ways in which you can measure your campaigns and use the results for future advertisements.
We’ll be running two sessions on the day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. You can choose your preferred time upon registration.
In this free lunchtime seminar on finance, investment firm executive, UEA lecturer and Anglia Capital Group director Andrea Finegan will address some of the key issues about raising money, such as:
What do different investors look for in a business?
What does a great pitch look like?
What can you do now to prepare for later investment?
Andrea will be available after her presentations for any of your questions about financing the growth of your business or business idea.

The Parteo Principle follows the 80/20 rule, where 80% of an effect comes from 20% of the cause. This principle occurs across many areas, business included, where 80% of your income is created by 20% of your customers.
By identifying and categorising our key customer groups we can create profiles to help us implement new practices to boost sales. This can include opening new communication channels, developing new product and service lines, and even changing pricing structures.
There is no right or wrong list of factors to create a Customer Profile, Nivea even use sun-cream usage as a factor (please forgive the pun), and in this webinar we introduce how we do it at Hethel Innovation; a technique we have introduced to businesses through our fully-funded ERDF project, Breakthrough.
What We’ll Cover
In this session we’ll look at:
What is Segmentation?
What is a Customer Profile?
The benefits and criticisms of these techniques.
Why use Customer Profiles.
How to begin the process, and what happens next.
Following the session you should understand how to conduct your own Customer Profile exercise by looking at the similarities of your current customers. With this information you can begin to introduce new practices to boost sales and improve the operations of the organisation.
Who Should Attend?
Early stage organisations looking to identify their early adopters for feedback.
Small businesses wishing to identify their niche.
Large organisations looking to move into new markets, and access new customers.
Those in the public sector looking to create solutions for a specific group of residents.
This webinar will be delivered by Jordan Sharman, part of Hethel Innovation‘s Business Development Team. With a background in Marketing, alongside manufacturing, Jordan works closely with SMEs and Startups in Norfolk and Suffolk to realise their target market and create businesses which provide a value that exceeds the expectations of the customers.

To take developers from a position of very little or no ruby experience, to the point where you are comfortable building and hosting a simple Ruby on Rails web application.
Prerequisites:
Some programming experience in any language (e.g. Javascript). Understand what a database is, maybe a little SQL, and be reasonably comfortable with HTML and CSS.
Basic familiarity with the command line (changing directory, running scripts).
You will need to bring a laptop with a recent version of ruby and rails installed (Ruby 2+ and Rails 4.1+)
The syllabus:
We will walk you through the basics of building a simple application using Ruby on Rails, and in 8 hours will aim to cover at least the following:
Basics of Ruby & Setting up a rails application
Overview of the Rails architecture
Building and querying your models
Controllers and Routing
Views and forms
Helpers and rubygems
Note that we probably won’t be able to cover more advanced topics such as building mailers, file uploads or model validations. However, this workshop will provide an excellent base for exploring these topics yourself.
About the workshop:
This workshop will be run by four professional rubyists. On a good day, we spend our time writing and debugging rails applications, and spend some of our evenings giving presentations on how to write and debug ruby code.
We recognise that programming is not something you learn by hearing about, it’s something you learn by doing. Each section will consist of roughly 20mins talk and 20mins practical, though this will vary depending on the content. All the presenters will be on hand to give assistance during the practicals.
There will be reference materials given out during the day, and ongoing online access to help and advice.
In March 2019, Alison Rose CEO of NatWest Holdings set out the finding and recommendations of the independent review int o female entrepreneurship as commissioned by HM Treasury in September 2018.

1. Lower access and awareness of capital
2. Greater risk awareness
3. Perceived missing skills & experience
4. Disproportionate primary care responsibilities
5. Lack of relatable sponsorship/mentorship/role models
Roundtable Objective
To discuss the impact Covid-19 has had on female entrepreneurs and reflect on the outcomes of the Rose Review.
Inaugural lecture: The role of internet technologies – are we bridging divides or losing control?
Prof Gerard Parr, School of Computing Sciences
Increasingly, being connected to the Global Internet is viewed as a human right and yet many in society are not part of this connected digital maze and are part of the ‘forgotten billion plus’. This talk will explore whether the benefits of connectivity outweigh the potential harm done by unpoliced content and will ask: what are the opportunities? What are the challenges? Should it be left to big business, should governments intervene or is it in the hands of wider society?
Please note: This lecture will be livestreamed here
