5 April 2015 will see a radical change to the way prospective parents can elect to take time off work following the birth of their baby, or the placement of an adoptive child. Employers will need to review their existing policies and procedures now to ensure they are fully prepared.
In this HR Forum we will examine in detail the new entitlement for parents to take shared parental leave, and consider some of the practical difficulties that may arise. We will also review existing entitlements to maternity and paternity leave and consider how the new arrangements for shared leave will fit with those existing rights.

On a crisp January morning, delegates from across the county joined the Norfolk Chamber at the Sea Life Centre for a Great Yarmouth Business Breakfast on Sales Success in 2014
Delegates got the networking off to a great start with a cup of coffee and an ice breaker to warm them up on a winter morning. They then got to take part in a prize draw to win a signed copy of Terrines & Verrines by celebrity Chef Franck Pontais & the winner was Mark Ellaway from Bigfork Ltd. Our key note speaker Elliot Symonds, Sales Manager at Jarrold Training, then delivered a fantastic presentation, providing delegates with top tips to close the deal. Following this, delegates got another chance for some more networking with a safari move and a chance for them to try out what they learnt.
Elliot started his presentation off by setting the scene of what Jarrold Training do and who they are. He then went on to outline the 7 key closing techniques that someone can use, focusing on the Duke of Wellington (or if you’re American the Abraham Lincoln) closing technique. He finished his presentation talking about the 7 Safari animals including the shark & the whale. This lead perfectly onto the safari networking where the delegates got to move to another table and try the Duke of Wellington technique on each other.
The event ended with the delegates being able to go on a tour of the Sea Life Centre and get hands on with the creatures of the deep blue sea. Our next Great Yarmouth Business Breakfast is scheduled for the 3 April 2014 to book or for more informationclick here. Some of the tweets from yesterday’s event are below
On the 24 April in the heart of the city, delegates arrived at the Library Restaurant after work for an evening of informal networking over Italian wine and antipasto. It was networking the Italian way. There was a fun, relaxed and energetic atmosphere as delegates enjoyed an Italian cocktail on arrival. The ideal environment to network as delegates embraced the ice breaker activity ‘Tally-ho.’ Delegates had the opportunity to meet every person in the room, a perfect way to break the ice and get people talking.
Moving into groups, delegates were able to mix and network with a new group of people. Each group moved upstairs to the beautiful reading room to taste handpicked Italian wine and antipasto with Jayne Raffles, The Library Restaurant. Delegates commented on the atmosphere and the opportunity to meet other people who may not usually attend networking breakfasts. ‘Network the Italian Way’ was a highly enjoyable evening where delegates expanded their network and met new people in a casual setting.
Delegates commented on the fantastic event as they departed. Those new to networking said they felt so at ease and thoroughly enjoyed their first networking event.
Ben Yassin, Computer Service Centre said:‘Great after hours event with the chamber last night. Lovely wine and company.’
