We are a local charity, committed to providing outstanding cancer support when and where people need it, now and for the future.
For 40 years, Big C has been supporting those affected by cancer across Norfolk & Waveney. From the first small, but important fundraising project providing chemotherapy equipment at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital in 1980, the charity has grown into an impressive organisation providing practical and emotional support in our Big C Centres, funding lifesaving medical equipment, funding internationally significant research projects based at the Norwich Research Park and educating local people about cancer. Sadly, most people will be affected by cancer at some point in their lives, whether that be their own diagnosis, or that of a loved one or friend.
Today, Big C has four established Cancer Support Centres, in the grounds of the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital, in King’s Lynn, Great Yarmouth and within the Louise Hamilton Centre in Gorleston. The Centres are visited more than 25,000 times each year, providing a bedrock of support, information, well-being therapies, tea, biscuits and a listening ear to many thousands of people in Norfolk & Waveney affected by cancer, often when they are attending hospital appointments, or during treatment.
We’ve now raised over £36m since 1980.
“I really wouldn’t believe it was possible, but it has, and is, changing lives. Sometimes I think we all have a purpose in this world, and I wonder whether I was ill to actually create Big C as it is today.” David Moar M.B.E – Big C Co-Founder
