A Purr-fect Surprise: Four Pallas’s Cat Kittens Born at Banham Zoo
Banham Zoo is delighted to announce the birth of four Pallas’s cat kittens, born on 27 April to first-time mum Zaya and dad Kahl, and are the first Pallas’s cats born at Banham Zoo since 2020.
For their first six weeks, the kittens remained safely tucked away in their den under the watchful care of mum Zaya. In recent days, the young cats have begun venturing outside, taking their first tentative steps beyond the den and exploring their surroundings.
Some lucky visitors have already caught a glimpse of the kittens as they make their public debut, delighting guests with their playful curiosity and notoriously grumpy appearance.
Pallas’s cats are one of the world’s most unique wild cat species, recognised for their dense fur, expressive faces and adaptations to the harsh grassland and mountain habitats of Central Asia. The successful birth of the four kittens is an exciting achievement for Banham Zoo and highlights the zoo’s ongoing commitment to the conservation of threatened species.
Visitors are encouraged to keep an eye on the Pallas’s cat habitat over the coming weeks and into the summer holidays, as the kittens continue to grow in confidence and spend more time exploring outdoors alongside their parents.
Kids Go for £1 this summer at Banham Zoo when booked before 17th July.
