Perth-based EC20 announces it will merge with Norwich-based clean energy consultancy Opergy.
The merger between their well-established consultancies will bring clean energy solutions up and down the country under the overarching Opergy Group brand.
EC20 specialises in working with developers to understand who they can work with and introducing them to supply chain companies already operating in the UK. Alongside this, they support government bodies across the world to support and develop their own supply chain and benefit from the offshore wind sector.
Headed up by Director Isla Robb, the company already has its own strong reputation within Scotland, and will be bolstered by the resources and expertise from Opergy Group. Robb will become Managing Director Opergy Scotland, as well as a Director of the Opergy Group alongside Johnathan Renyolds (Managing Director), Kim Duffy (Finance Director), and Martin Dronfield (Commercial Director).
Isla Robb said: “By bringing EC20 under the Opergy Group umbrella, we’re combining two like-minded companies with shared common values. In doing so, I’m excited about the significant contributions we can make to the energy transition in a meaningful and tangible way.”
“For EC20’s customers, they’ll continue to trade with the same registered entity, just under a new name and with the added benefits of accessing the Opergy Group’s wide range of services and expertise.”
Opergy Group have already built a large presence in the East of England and are expanding their reach to the northern parts of the UK, including Scotland.
They support businesses with industry insights and solutions to drive innovation and growth in a way that makes a positive impact on people, places, and the planet, were founded in 2019. They work with energy supply chains, developers, and organisations to make real change in industry.
The consultancy are sector specific advisors for the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult’s national F4OR programme, delivering modules to the North-East Scottish cohort. Additionally, their work with the Offshore Wind Industry Sector’s Wind Expert Support Toolkit WEST programme has seen the consultancy work with companies in the area.
The move reinforces both companies’ commitment and clear ambitions within clean energy including the wind, hydrogen, and nuclear sectors. As Opergy Group Managing Director Johnathan Reynolds explains: “We’ve discovered from activities such as the recent Floating Offshore Wind report we completed for the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult that there’s huge opportunities in the clean energy sector in Scotland. Combining the experience both Isla and our Senior Management Team possess is a no-brainer.”
“We’re already making great progress in the northern-most parts of the UK. The addition of Isla’s reputation will give us the competitive edge, becoming an unstoppable force in the clean energy sector up and down the country,” he added.
Both companies already have the support of clients the length and breadth of the country.
Claire Mack, CEO of Scottish Renewables, said: “We welcome the news that EC20 and Opergy Group are coming together to champion clean growth in Scotland. Renewable energy is already the mainstay of Scotland’s energy system and the growth which is forecast in the sector means many more economic and environmental benefits are to come. This merger will place EC20 and Opergy Group in a position to use their strong expertise and experience as that growth, particularly in offshore wind, starts to accelerate.”
John McDonald, CEO for global energy skills body OPITO, said: “With UK Government doubling down on their Energy Security strategy in recent months and the forecast investment and jobs growth, we at OPITO are delighted to see clean growth companies such as Opergy and EC20 expand their reach across the UK in a meaningful way. We’re looking forward to working with the team at Opergy and Opergy Scotland going forward as we collaboratively deliver the vital future skills and push towards the UK’s net zero ambitions.”
