Norfolk County Council has revealed plans for more than 40 electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints to be rolled out across residential areas in Norwich.

The council is set to award a contract to install, supply and operate the new chargepoints this month following a procurement process that has seen “a number of high quality bids”. They are set to be installed in the areas of Nelson, Mancroft, Mile Cross, Sewell, Thorpe Hamlet, Lakenham and Town Close, after data highlighted them as having the greatest need for on-street charging infrastructure.

On-street parking restrictions that lie adjacent to where the EV chargepoints are due to be installed will be reviewed in a bid to ensure that EV drivers can freely access them.

Funding is expected to come from a third-party supplier and operator, with subsidies from UK Power Networks and the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles’ On Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme topping things up where necessary. The chargepoints are expected to be installed and then available to use by the summer.
